We build, optimise, and maintain Power BI dashboards – from operational reports to executive risk views. Clean data models, purposeful design, and visuals built around the decisions your team needs to make. Not dashboards for a demo. Dashboards for daily use.
Most Power BI dashboards don’t get used after the first week.
A dashboard that nobody uses is a waste of budget. The problem is almost never Power BI – it’s unclear requirements, poor data models, or visuals that don’t match how people actually make decisions. We build dashboards that get used because we start with the questions, not the charts.
Data models built without understanding the questions
The dashboard shows everything and answers nothing. Calculated measures that don’t correspond to how the business actually reports, relationships between tables that produce wrong numbers, and a report that takes 45 seconds to load. Users open it once, can’t find what they need, and never come back.
Visuals chosen for looks, not for decisions
A 3D pie chart, six KPI cards, and a scatter plot that nobody knows how to read. Charts that impressed in a demo but don’t help anyone understand what to do next. Decoration instead of information. The right visual for a risk heatmap is not the same as the right visual for budget variance – and most dashboards don’t make that distinction.
No maintenance plan
Six months after go-live, the data refresh is broken, two measures were changed without updating the report, and the dashboard now shows last quarter’s numbers as if they’re current. Trust erodes. Everyone goes back to Excel.
Power BI solutions we deliver.
From a single operational report to a full multi-page dashboard suite. We work with your data sources, your requirements, and your Microsoft 365 environment – and we bring AppSource-level platform knowledge to every engagement.
Dashboard Development
New Power BI dashboards built from your data sources. The process always starts with requirements – what decisions does this dashboard need to support, and who is making them? Then a clean, efficient data model. Then purposeful visuals. Not charts for the sake of charts. Typical deliverables include:
- Requirements documentation: questions the dashboard must answer, by audience
- Data model: fact and dimension tables, relationships, calculated columns, and measures
- Report pages: one page per audience or use case, not everything on one screen
- Interactivity: slicers, drill-through, cross-filtering, bookmarks where useful
- Refresh schedule: configured and tested before handover
- Row-level security where different users should see different data
Risk & ERM Dashboards
Specialised dashboards for corporate risk registers – connected directly to SharePoint and powered by our AppSource-certified Risk Matrix visual. Typical pages include:
- Risk Matrix: heatmap of all open risks by pre- and post-mitigation probability and impact, colour-coded by rating (Minor / Significant / Major / Critical)
- Appetite representation: automated within / out-with appetite indicator per risk, based on the approved Appetite Application Matrix
- Mitigation Status: progress by function and appetite category – Not Started / In Progress / Completed / Overdue – with trend over time
- Top 10 Risks: filterable by rating, appetite category, function, and risk velocity
- Closed Stats: historical view of closed risks and issues for board reporting
Report Optimisation
Existing dashboards that are slow, confusing, or no longer trusted. We start with an audit – data model, DAX measures, visual choices, and report structure – and give you a written assessment of what’s causing the problems before changing anything. Typical issues we fix include:
- Slow load times caused by inefficient data models or poorly written DAX
- Incorrect calculations due to missing filters, wrong relationship directions, or ambiguous joins
- Visuals that confuse rather than inform – replaced with clearer alternatives
- Reports that have grown too large over time – restructured into focused pages
- Missing row-level security that is letting users see data they shouldn’t
Migration from Qlik or other BI tools
Moving from Qlik Sense, QlikView, Tableau, or Excel-based reporting to Power BI. The data model and report logic need to be rebuilt – a migration is not a copy-paste. We handle both, including:
- Assessment of existing Qlik apps or Excel models: what exists, what works, what to leave behind
- Data model design in Power BI (star schema, calculated columns, DAX measures)
- Report rebuild with equivalent or improved visualisations
- Parallel validation: new Power BI numbers checked against existing Qlik or Excel output
- User acceptance testing and cutover planning
We don’t just use Power BI – we build for it.
LeapLytics develops and maintains certified custom visuals for Power BI – including the Risk Matrix heatmap visual used by organisations including Rail Baltica and VELUX across Europe. When we build your dashboard, we bring AppSource-level platform knowledge with us. That means we know what Power BI can and can’t do natively, when a custom visual adds value, and when the standard chart is the right choice.
Risk Matrix Visual
AppSource-certified heatmap for risk portfolios. Plots risks on a 5×5 matrix by probability and impact, with configurable colour bands, labels, and drill-through. Used by hundreds of organisations as the centrepiece of their risk dashboard.
Traffic Light, Gantt & more
A suite of certified visuals for status reporting, project timelines, and structured data display – available separately on AppSource and as part of dashboard builds we deliver for clients.
How it works.
1. Requirements & Data Review
We start by understanding what decisions the dashboard needs to support, who is making them, and how often. We map your data sources, identify gaps, assess data quality, and agree on the scope in writing before building anything. This stage often surfaces issues that would have caused problems later.
2. Data Model & Build
A clean, efficient data model comes before the first visual. We build the model in Power BI Desktop, review it with you, then build the report pages, visuals, and interactivity. We share progress regularly – typically a review after the data model is complete and again mid-build – and incorporate feedback before finalising.
3. UAT & Sign-off
You test the dashboard against real scenarios and validate the numbers against your source systems. We fix any issues, document any known limitations, and confirm the refresh schedule is working correctly before sign-off.
4. Handover & Documentation
Full handover including data model documentation, measure library, refresh schedule, and user guidance. Includes 3 months of defect remediation. Ongoing maintenance available as a retainer.
Dashboards we’ve built for our clients.
Corporate Risk Dashboard
Multi-page Power BI dashboard connected to a SharePoint risk register. Pages typically include: risk heatmap (our Risk Matrix visual), pre/post mitigation scores, appetite representation, mitigation status by function and category, Top 10 risks, and closed risk history. Feeds directly from SharePoint with automated refresh.
Operational KPI Reporting
Weekly or monthly operational dashboards with summary KPIs at the top and drill-through to detail. Typically replaces a manually compiled Excel report that was taking 2–3 hours per week to produce. Connected to SharePoint lists, Excel files, or SQL databases depending on the source.
Finance & Budget Tracking
Budget vs actuals reporting with variance analysis, trend lines, and forecast views. Typically connected to Excel or ERP exports. Includes period-to-date, year-to-date, and full-year views with consistent formatting across cost centres.
Project Portfolio Overview
RAG status, milestone tracking, resource allocation, and delivery confidence across a project portfolio. Typically fed from a SharePoint project list or a structured Excel tracker. Replaces a weekly PowerPoint deck that was taking a project manager half a day to compile.
Compliance & Audit Reporting
Structured compliance dashboards with control status, due dates, owner assignment, and automated highlighting of overdue items. Often combined with a Power Automate alert flow that notifies owners when their controls are approaching their review date.
Sales & Pipeline Reporting
Revenue, pipeline, and conversion reporting from CRM exports or SharePoint-based sales trackers. Includes funnel views, trend lines, and territory breakdowns. Replaces weekly Excel-based pipeline reports with a live, self-service dashboard.
Transparent pricing.
We work on a Time & Material basis. You pay for days actually worked at a fixed day rate – no fixed-price guesswork, no hidden costs. If it takes fewer days than estimated, you pay less.

Why LeapLytics for Power BI?
We build Power BI visuals professionally
Most Power BI consultants use the tool. We build for it at platform level – certified custom visuals, AppSource publishing, and a depth of knowledge that comes from having to understand how Power BI renders data, not just how to drag a chart onto a canvas. That expertise shows in the dashboards we deliver for clients.
Data model first
A beautiful dashboard on a bad data model fails eventually – usually at the worst possible moment. We build the model properly from the start: star schema where it matters, clean relationships, efficient DAX, and a structure that can be maintained after handover without requiring us to be involved in every change.
Connected to your M365 stack
Our dashboards connect to SharePoint, Power Apps data, Excel, and other M365 sources. If you need the data structure built as well as the dashboard, we do that too – same team, same day rate, no handover between separate workstreams.
Frequently asked questions.
Do we need Power BI Premium to work with you?
No. We work with Power BI Pro licences as standard. Power BI Premium is only needed for specific scenarios – large-scale embedded analytics, paginated reports at scale, or very high refresh frequencies. We’ll tell you upfront if your requirements need it, and we won’t recommend it unless they do.
Can you connect Power BI to our existing data sources?
Yes. Power BI connects to SharePoint, Excel, SQL Server, Azure, and hundreds of other sources via standard connectors. We assess your data sources during the requirements phase and advise on the best connection approach for reliability and refresh performance.
We already have Power BI dashboards – can you improve them?
Yes. Report optimisation is one of our most common engagements. We start with an audit – what’s slow, what’s wrong, what’s confusing – and give you a written assessment before changing anything. Then we fix what needs fixing, in order of impact.
Can you migrate our Qlik dashboards to Power BI?
Yes. We have experience migrating from Qlik Sense and QlikView to Power BI. The data model and report logic need to be rebuilt from scratch – this is not an automated migration. We handle the full rebuild including parallel validation to confirm the numbers match before cutover.
How long does a typical Power BI project take?
A single focused dashboard typically takes 3–5 days. A multi-page suite with a clean data model usually takes 6–10 days. Migrations vary: a straightforward Qlik app with 3–4 reports is typically 5–7 days; a complex QlikView application with many calculated fields and multiple data sources can take 10–12 days.
Do you offer ongoing dashboard maintenance?
Yes. Every engagement includes 3 months of defect remediation after handover. Beyond that, ongoing maintenance – data model updates, new pages, visual changes, refresh troubleshooting – is available as a monthly retainer. Many clients find a small retainer more cost-effective than calling us in reactively when something breaks.
Often combined with Power BI.
Risk Register
Our most common Power BI use case – a live multi-page risk dashboard connected to a SharePoint risk register, with heatmap, appetite representation, mitigation status, and Top 10 risk views. Framework design, register build, and dashboard delivered as a single engagement.
SharePoint Development
Power BI dashboards need clean, structured data to be reliable. We build and configure the SharePoint lists that feed your dashboard – correct column types, validation, and structure that makes the data model straightforward. Same team, same engagement where needed.
Power BI Visuals (Products)
Our certified custom visuals – Risk Matrix, Traffic Light, Gantt, Matrix Table, and more – are available on Microsoft AppSource for use in dashboards you build yourself. Free trials available.
